Your Captions Might Be Killing Your Conversions: Here's How to Fix It
By The Nerd, Jennifer, Creative Director at Facets of Hospitality

Let’s talk CTAs. No, not Call The Ambulance (unless your last promo really bombed). We’re talking Call-To-Actions—those tiny lines at the end of your posts that can either boost your engagement or make your content flatter than over-processed hair.
Here’s the thing: Not every CTA needs to scream “BOOK NOW” or “SHOP TODAY!” In fact, if you keep yelling at your audience like that, they might start ghosting you like a bad date.
Here’s how to do better—especially if you’re slinging skincare, working the chair in a salon, or showing off a flawless beat on a client.
🔹 Soft CTAs (aka The Chill Vibes)
These CTAs feel natural—like they casually walked in with a matcha latte and didn’t even try to sell you anything.
Perfect for: skincare routines, before-and-afters, or a fun GRWM (get ready with me) post.
“Glowy skin without filters? Yeah, it’s possible.”
“When your hair flips better than your mood.”
“If your foundation doesn’t melt in the heat… keep it.”
🔹 Engagement CTAs (aka Let’s Talk, Babe)
Instagram, TikTok, Facebook—they’re all thirsty for one thing: interaction. Comments = visibility = the algorithm might actually like you again.
Perfect for: hair transformations, color options, product comparisons, or makeup looks.
“Which one is your fave – the bold lip or the dewy glow? 💄”
“Tag your bestie who would totally wear this.”
“Would you try this color combo or nah? Drop a 👀 if you’re tempted.”
🔹 Action-Based CTAs (aka Tell Me What To Do, Nerd)
These CTAs are the helpful friend who doesn’t give you ten options when you’re already overwhelmed. Just one clear step.
Perfect for: promoting your booking link, selling retail products, or sending people to your tutorial.
“Tap the link in bio to book your skin analysis.”
“Need this serum in your life? Add to cart, thank me later.”
“Want the full tutorial? It’s all in the link—don’t miss it.”
🔹 FOMO CTAs (aka Fear of Missing That Glow-Up)
Use these wisely. They should create a little panic—not a full-on existential crisis.
Perfect for: flash deals, product drops, or anything that sells out faster than a PSL in fall.
“This sold out last time in under 48 hours. You’ve been warned.”
“I don’t want to be dramatic, but your pores might cry if you skip this one.”
“Everyone who waited till payday? Regret. Regret everywhere.”
So, Nerd, What’s the Big Deal?
Your captions are the conversation—your CTA is the invitation. Captions Might Be Killing Your Conversions. If your audience feels like they’re being bossed around or pitched to every time, they’ll scroll faster than you can say “limited edition serum.”
Instead: switch it up, get playful, and stay human.
