Your AI Tools Need a HANDLER: This is a Guide to Prompting ChatGPT for Your Business Marketing
A course from Your Marketing Team at Facets of Hospitality
In today's fast-paced digital world, and by that, I mean "How do I market my business?" Facebook groups- AI tools like ChatGPT are really in focus. From posts like, "How do I stop my boss from investing in AI so I don't lose my job" to "Do I have to tell my boss that I use AI to write my blogs he hired me for?"
AI Tools have revolutionized the way we approach business marketing. They offer incredible potential to streamline tasks, generate content, and engage with customers. However, your AI tools need a handler to harness this power truly.
I do not feel that AI Tools will be replacing our jobs soon. It could be twenty years or more. We have a lot of infrastructure to build before they're ready to replace us. Let's learn to work together to make our lives easier and propel us forward.
A writer used to sit down and plan a web of ideas, plots, characters, and storyboards to begin the brainstorming phase of writing a new article or blog for work. Then, you would flesh out the details, edit the goods, and present a finished piece. Some people could do all of this within an hour using their brains. Most people would take at least a few hours, while others need weeks in between blog writings. Imagine a world where you could say to your assistant, "Please write me a blog about my job as a mechanic who takes old cars and makes them new again and how much I love doing it in a small town because it makes me new friends and keeps their cars running." No joke, within less than a minute, you would have a fully written blog about the "Joys of Owning an Automotive Shop in Rural America," making you sound like a regular everyday news reporter. This type of assistant is a GOLDMINE for people who are not writers but own businesses.
It's an assistant, and it's new and needs to be trained. It requires a handler, or it will maybe tell people that your automotive shop on the outskirts of town has been the best rundown lot for drag racing in recent years. (Maybe it read a blog by someone else on the internet and misunderstood—that's not your lot. How did it think that? Well, it's a good thing you didn't hit publish without editing!)
Without checking your assistant's work, you could publish things that are not good for your business or are not correct.
Here's another example.
I taught a class about Prompting AI to corporate marketing managers. It's a $500 course that is two hours long and includes materials and an E-Book that will help you use these tools efficiently and get a ton more work done in your daily life.
In one class, a student kept being skeptical and discussing how she feared that AI would take over her job and that I was training her to be replaced by the tools she was learning to use. (Maybe... we don't know? They also said that about computers and then hired the 'Computer Programmers' to maintain them...)
So I said, "Okay, give me an industry. What do you do?"
She said, "I am a restaurant manager in a small town. I do our marketing in-house for our three locations."
"Okay—I'll plug that in," I said, going to the AI Tool I used to demonstrate on the screen. I typed, "Write me a blog about the top five restaurants in (her town) and include (her restaurant) as number one." I hit enter.
The audience hadn't seen a live demo yet, this was early on--- so they were shocked at how quickly it wrote the article and how professional it looked
...and it looked as if I had just proven her right. The jobs of copywriters and marketing mangers were flying out the window as I spoke...
And then they read it.
It was eloquent, well thought out, and well written. It was very professional, with a ton of keywords in the right spots and used properly.
Of the five restaurants it generated in the article, three were either a food bank or a grocery store, and the descriptions were very legitimate and well-written about why this was a tourist hotspot.
"If you don't read this and just copy/paste/publish- your business will start sending traffic to your local food bank as a restaurant option if they don't like your place... might come off as sarcasm? It might be understood as a joke. Do you only have two restaurants in town, so it was scrounging?"
"Oh... wow... No, we are about the size of Youngstown. We have restaurants near us; we are just on the outskirts of town. But less than a mile away is a restaurant row. Why did it choose Food Banks?"
She was shocked.
How To Become an AI Handler
Right there is precisely WHY my class is important and WHY it will not take over our jobs if we learn about it and we USE IT. Don't sit back and get lazy and mad. This will make companies create robots THAT WILL REPLACE humanity. If that's their goal anyway, what is being afraid of it going to do? If you NEVER use an AI Tool in your life, this course is eye-opening so that you know what you're up against, what your competitors are using, and what is capable so you don't hold yourself to comparison standards with a programmed piece of technology.
People who are not experts in their field use these tools to scour the internet (maybe some of your resources) and market their business with little effort and a small monthly fee. You AT LEAST deserve to know what you're up against to compete.
"I don't compete. My product speaks for itself. We are well known, and I'm fine."
Yes, I also heard this argument about websites back in the early 2000s. "I don't need a website" ... Popular business authors or makers were well known and had a huge word of mouth. Other marketing channels were working for them. Such as publishers... newspapers, events.... old school techniques, you know?
Then the internet happened, and people understood SEO, read a book, became experts, opened a blog, and generated millions of traffic of people looking for answers. I spoke to an author to whom this had happened. His book went "viral" in the 90s, and almost every school or maker had a copy of it or knew of it. He was the source. But he never went to a website ... never went to socials.... didn't do any interviews or follow-ups, and the word of mouth started to dwindle to no sales at all from an average of 10K+ per month. Naturally, what had happened was he inspired his audience to learn more... they did... They started talking about it where people talk about things now, and his greatness was still great and referenced but washed down on SEO because it wasn't "new, relevant, or recently updated," as Google prefers.
You have to know what's going on to stay relevant. You don't have to comply, but you have to know
it exists. He literally said to me, "I just started thinking I wasn't relevant anymore," even though as soon as we opened his Instagram page, people from all over the world were enamored because he had been THE INSPIRATION for them and the testimonials poured out.
If you don't understand the tools, they can be used against you.
Even if you're scared of the tools, knowing how to use them safely can help you.

Let’s dive into why this is crucial and how you can master the art of prompting ChatGPT for your business.
Why Your AI Tools Need a Handler
Maximize Efficiency: AI can produce vast amounts of content, but without proper guidance, it may not align with your brand’s voice or objectives. A skilled handler ensures that every output is on point and serves your business goals.
Save Time and Resources: While AI can save time, improper use can lead to wasted effort on revisions and corrections. A handler streamlines the process, providing clear and concise prompts that reduce the need for extensive edits.
Enhance Creativity: AI tools are powerful, but they rely on the input they receive. A handler can inject creativity and direction, ensuring that the AI’s outputs are innovative and engaging.
Consistency in Branding: Your brand's voice and tone are critical. A handler maintains consistency, making sure that every piece of content reflects your brand’s personality and values.
How to Effectively Prompt ChatGPT for Your Business Marketing
Be Specific: The more detailed your prompt, the better the output. Instead of saying, “Write a social media post,” try, “Write a social media post about our new product launch that highlights its eco-friendly features.”
Use Examples: Provide examples of the type of content you’re looking for. This helps the AI understand your preferences and produce content that meets your standards.
Set Clear Objectives: Define what you want to achieve with the content. Are you looking to inform, entertain, or persuade? Clear objectives guide the AI in crafting messages that hit the mark.
Refine and Iterate: Don’t be afraid to refine your prompts. If the output isn’t perfect, tweak your input and try again. The more you work with the AI, the better you’ll become at crafting effective prompts.
Maintain a Human Touch: (Or... aka... The Handler) AI is a tool, not a replacement for human insight. Always review and adjust the AI-generated content to ensure it aligns with your brand and resonates with your audience. You want your content to sound like you, right?
Try These Prompts:
"Write me an instagram post today using hashtags about (insert your niche) and use these key points (name three things related to what you do, or keywords from your website or business name) - make it sound like (insert a tone of voice such as funny, professional, sarcastic, scientific, etc)"
"Generate three things I can talk about today on social media reels for my (insert your niche)."
