Listen... it happens to the best of us, whether you're an employee scrolling on break or a CEO scrolling in the breakroom when you should be in a meeting. Social media consumes us if we let it.
As social media managers, we get to this point all too often... But there's a balance. A method. A mission. And if you lose sight of that and aimlessly scroll... you'll end up lost in a sea of content creators looking to steal your attention for a little bit of coin. You do not have to play the game.
You do not have to influence the way everyone tells you to influence.
You do not have to be influenced by who shows up on your feed.
If you need a social media detox, you're in the right place for guidance and support. Read on...
Here are some extra tips to remain sane as a business owner on social media, in case you missed Part 1... Click here for more on this topic.
You're Gold... Precious & Rare
Don't feel the need to post everything you do. It's not necessary to post every single thing you do on Instagram. It might be better if you didn't! If you're posting about something uninteresting, people won't want to follow you because they'll get bored quickly. Instead of focusing on quantity, focus on quality. If you are an influencer and HAVE to do this daily routine or GRWM cycle, there are tricks and tips to remain sane for you as well... let's talk.
You're In Control... Let Go a Bit
Take a break if you feel like social media is too much or making you feel bad. It is okay to take a break from social media! If you feel overwhelmed by Instagram or other platforms, it might be best to take a break. Taking time away from social media can help you feel less stressed and more in control of your life.
You're In Your Lane... Stay There
Don't let yourself worry about what everyone else is posting; it's just their highlight reel! Social media is a great way to stay connected with people, but it can also be an easy way to compare yourself to others. It's so easy to get wrapped up in what everyone else posts and forgets about the real world around you! There are so many things out there to see, learn and experience. Focus on those instead of worrying about what everyone else has been doing lately. I'd love to help you bring back the work/life balance with our 45-day challenge... Ask me about it!
You're You... That's allowed!!
Be sure to put out posts you feel good about, even if they might not perform as well as some of your other posts. Most importantly, you feel good about what you put out there. Yes, it's great to have content that performs, but if you don't like what you're putting out there then it's probably not worth doing at all. It doesn't matter if it gets likes or shares or comments if they're not genuine reactions from people who care about what you have to say! The 40 people who like your post about your true heart are more likely to do business with you than the 1,001 likes when you share about a Disney quote.
You're In Business... Keep it professional.
Remember that it's all a game, and don't take anything personally; it's business! Yes, I know, this is easier said than done. It can feel personal and hurtful when someone doesn't like what you put out there. Especially if they make it personal on your posts, remember that your social media is an extension of your customer service arm, and you need to be careful how you respond to comments.... for your own good. "The Customer Is Always Right" isn't because they're always right; it's because they're paying.
But think about it: if they're not buying what you're selling, then that's all that matters... You don't have to worry about keeping them happy; focus on the people who do want to buy from you. In today's age-- if you aren't doing anything to hurt them and they're trying to hurt you, then you have recourse. There is a block button. There is an opportunity to consult with a lawyer, and there is moral judgment and character of those who do love you who know that what haters hate about isn't always for truth but for likes. This social media platform will only improve if we do better one by one and business by business.
Just keeping it real!
Takeaway Nugget of Truth: Try not to stress out about social media marketing. If you're not getting the desired results, it's probably because your strategy isn't working, or your heart isn't in it ... or both. Ensure you're posting regularly and engaging with your audience before entirely throwing in the towel on social media. Need more help?
